It’s no secret that managing leave is complicated. According to The Hartford’s 2024 Future of Benefits Study, 50% of employers said there was no easy way to track and manage different types of leave.1 With ever-changing laws and regulations surrounding leave, it’s critical for employers to be able to easily see their employees’ absence status. They also need to ensure that their employees can better understand their leave options.

The Hartford is listening, and we’re here to help make leaves of absence more manageable for employers and employees. We developed two new tools to help your clients and their employees track and manage absence: Absence Dashboard and Leave Lens.SM
Absence Dashboard

Absence Dashboard

We created a platform that aggregates an employer’s absence data into one visual interface.
Leave Lens

Leave Lens

This user-friendly interface helps employees learn about available absence benefits and plan for their leave before they file a claim.

Aggregate Your Data With Our Absence Dashboard

The Hartford’s Future of Benefits Study found that 89% of employers would welcome a service that could track different leaves in one place.1 That service is now available in our Absence Dashboard, a tool that allows employers to manage workforce productivity, identify trends and receive specific, timely information regarding employees’ absence requests and return-to-work plans.

“Leave and absence information has always been available to employers, but our goal is to continuously improve the customer experience,” says Kim Rudeen, head of absence management for Group Benefits at The Hartford. “We heard their feedback loud and clear, and they want to be able to access all the information easily and on one screen.”

Key features of the dashboard include:

  • Aggregation of most absence types. Short and long-term disability, paid family and medical leave (PFML), the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), company leave and workplace accommodations are all accessible on one screen.
  • Straight-forward visualizations. Interactive graphs and images show employers up-to-date company and individual data. (The Absence Dashboard does not display individual employee diagnostic data.)
  • View of absence/leave events. Employers can see current claim status, past claim events, upcoming milestones and an expected end claim date with return-to-work information. They can zoom into details about individual claims when possible.
  • Customization. Users can create custom views based on specific data, such as leave and benefit type or employee salary type. They can then export data for further analysis.
The Absence Dashboard is available at no additional cost to all customers within The Hartford’s Ability Advantage® system who utilize our leave services.

Leave Lens Helps Employees Identify Available Benefits

If employers and human resources (HR) professionals have trouble keeping track of absence information, it’s likely that employees would need help as well. Our new Leave Lens tool shows workers their key eligibility information. Once they input some simple information about their desired leave and paid time off, they can see what other benefits are available to them.

While this tool lowers stress for employees, it’s also beneficial to employers. Our study showed that 89% of employers want support in educating their workers on how different types of leaves work together.1

Leave Lens can:

  • Reduce back and forth between workers and HR personnel regarding leave, allowing HR to focus on more high-value tasks. Of those surveyed, 65% of employees will contact their employer first when they aren’t sure how their leave works.2
  • Help companies stay compliant by ensuring employees have the most up-to-date eligibility information for statutory leaves. Leave Lens will include timely updates for:
    • State and federal laws
    • Regulations for paid and unpaid disability and family medical leaves
    • Company leaves
    • Paid time off

“Leave isn’t just complex, it’s high stakes for employees and employers,” says Rudeen. “Employers have compliance to contend with, while employees have their livelihoods and wellbeing to think about. We are supporting both by giving them a hand when it matters most.”

Leave Lens is available at no additional cost to The Hartford’s customers who have leave services with The Hartford, a complete eligibility file and the MyBenefits employee experience enabled.
